Mr. Hoekstra has more than 30 years of professional experience including corporate management, strategic planning, intellectual property, and business development, as well as extensive technical expertise in lasers, electro-optics, crystal growth, materials processing, solar, LCD, and semiconductor manufacturing. He is the founder/CEO of SDG Technology, a technology solutions company that identifies, designs, and develops critical laser and materials technologies that enable next generation applications and devices. He also serves as the exclusive U.S. distributor for 3D-Micromac AG, a German-based laser systems provider. From September 1999 until September 2009, he was Founder & CEO of Applied Photonics, Inc., a leading laser solutions provider for the flat panel display industry with an installation base in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China. Between 1992 and 1999, he held various management and executive positions in the technology sector including stints at Accudyne Corporation, Mission Research Corporation, and Amherst Systems. From 1986 until 1992, he was Deputy Director of a NASA Commercial Center specializing in space-based crystal growth and a co-investigator on several space shuttle experiments. From 1984 until 1986, he was a leading researcher in electronic and optical materials at the Materials Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio and was the DoD technical representative for the International Space Station Microgravity Science Advisory Board.
